"THE PREMIER NCAA SANCTION BASKETBALL LEAGUE IN THE NATION"
Vision
Our vision is to provide a foundation of knowledge for the youth of Southern California. We do this by providing mentorship programs, utilizing innovative ways to get young adults involved in the lives of our mentors. We would like for our young adult participants to connect with business professionals who volunteer as mentors. The information gained from this interaction enhances the real world knowledge our youth needs to be successful in life.
The Rod Smith Sayno Classis organizations mission is to provide values and learning experiences through the sport of basketball. This is done with the belief that every child should be able to participate in the program of his or her choice regardless of race, religion, creed, gender, ability, or financial status. This spirit flourishes in the environment where everyone is given the chance to play and learn simultaneously.
Founded in 1972, the Say No Classic (SNC) basketball mentorship program is recognized as one of the premier organizations to host a NCAA sanctioned summer league in the country. Every year, the SNC showcases a new collection of NCAA athletes before they complete their education and make the decision to enter the career of their choice, this includes a possible career in the NBA or the numerous professional basketball league in existence throughout the world. Each year at least one participant of the summer league has graduated to professional basketball in the NBA. In 2009 alone, eight NBA first round picks came from the Say No Classic league: Darren Collison, Austin Daye, Demar DeRozan, James Harden, Brandon Jennings, and Taj Gibson.
For nearly forty years, the Say No Classic has provided an early opportunity for NBA players including Reggie Miller, Paul Pierce, Gilbert Arenas, Baron Davis, Russell Westbrook, Trevor Ariza, Cedric Ceballos, Jordan Farmar and Chris Mills to name just a few.
The bond formed between the Say No Classic and the Nike Corporation is one that has lasted for 17 years. SayNo Classic and Nike will continue their positive relationship in the future as each seeks to expand on the positive gains the SNC mentorship program has provided.
